Not Taking No For An Answer

It's hard to believe that six short weeks ago when I told the local Conservative candidate that he'd have another shot within six months I was stretching it. (I was actually thinking late February, when this current economic crisis starts to turn around). It was one of those Star Wars moments. You know, the one where someone says "I've got a bad feeling about this." Now that Dion has proven that he's able to lie in both official languages, apparently more capably than he has been at telling the truth, Canadians have a chance to see a true hidden agenda come to the forefront. How many of you thought it would be from Mr Dion? Let's not forget Jack "I'm running to be Prime Minister" Layton. What he didn't tell his voters is that if he wasn't successful, he'd settle for being a Foreign Affairs minister in cahoots with a guy who, well, wants where he lives to become a foreign country! It's almost funny. This year, there's three Grinches looking to steal Christmas. They're wearing Orange, Red & Light Blue hats. These guys talk about being environmentalists, but all they're going to earn is a lump of dirty coal in their stocking. It'll look good on them. Worse-Than-That afterthought: Jack Layton could become Minister of Defence! Gilles Duceppe could become Deputy Prime Minister! (okay, I'm reaching here. Still, people thought I was nuts when I said we'd be at the polls by the end of February.)

How will we possibly be at the polls in six months. There is no mechanism to remove this coalition from power. They were not voted in and cannot be voted out.

2 ways. Prorogue Parlaiment until the Budget vote, lose the vote and the PM seeks dissolution and an election. Otherwise, he can ask the GG to dissolve upon losing a vote on Dec 8th and call for a general election then.

You know the easiest solution would have been to try and work with one of the other parties.

Why is Harper constantly on the attack? Do think that Harper was intentionally trying to sabotage the minority parliament to force another election because he didn't like the results of the last one?

In which case, the opposition forming a coalition was the only way to make this parliament work.
Not the most deisrable result certainly better than another expensive election.

Wow, it hasn't taken the paranoia long to set in over here has it? Dion lies - in both languages! He has a hidden agenda. Now, think of how absurd that sounded when the Liberals were saying it about Harper and take a moment to reflect. All better?

The real liar was Stephen Harper. Going into this session he promised to work with the other parties in a spirit of cooperation and openness, saying that in the face of this economic crisis we must put politics aside. We won a minority, an increased minority but a minority none the less so this seems fair. So who would have expected this economic update to be so blatantly and offensively divisive? Who expected a plan to bankrupt the other parties by removing the public financing subsidy, passing it off as a savings to the Canadian tax payer? This was a cynical political move by Harper who bet on the Liberals sitting on their hands to allow it to pass as they sit effectively leaderless. What he didn’t bet on was the opposition reacting. In fact he so badly miscalculated the reaction to this joke he’s put forward that he’s destroyed our parties grip on government.

The Liberals, the NDP and the BLOC are all very different parties with different priorities. For these groups of individuals to be so inspired to unite behind Stephane Dion on all people in INCREDIBLE!! For them to forge a long term deal, to put aside these differences and to even be able to sit in a room together is amazing. Who knew that Harper could be so inspiring?

This is a damn shame! Had Stephen Harper not been paying cynical games with the opposition in his personal quest to destroy them this would have never happened. We can argue all we like about the validity of the action the opposition parties are taking but it looks like it’s going to happen whether we like it or not.

Stephen Harper needs to take the advice of the G&M and offer his resignation in exchange for Conservatives to remain in Government.

I’m Angry. I’m Angry at STEPHEN HARPER.

I have a hard time reading the postings left here by the Lib/NDP/Bloc supporters. Y'know, the ones that say "It's Harpers fault!"
Rest assured, the longer we have to wait for the next election, the bigger the Conservative majority will be. I've already started rubbing Liberals noses in the fact that they 'voted' for the Bloc...

Um - isn't that called a DICTATORSHIP.

You have confirmed that this is undemocratic with that statement.

Sooooo Calg Grit - I guess asking the other parties for their suggestions and asking them to work together to get through this crisis isn't "working together in a spirit of cooperation and openness" - and Iggy haughtily refusing to give him ideas because they wanted him to wear this recession. Yeah, that's cooperation at it's finest. And I guess giving it a whole week and a half after a throne speech they all voted for before they institute their long planned takeover, smacks of cooperation.

So CG - get off your high horse and see this for what it is - a bunch of sore losers who see their place at the trough being denyed and have decided that they can slid the true reason for this coup under the "economy" table.

And CG - please take the "we" out of your comment because you are in no way a Conservative supporter.
