St. John's mayor wants seat for Newfoundland at federal cabinet

They had their chance. It's what's known as a federal election. ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — The mayor of St. John's is calling on the public to convince Ottawa to appoint somebody from Newfoundland and Labrador to be responsible for the province at the federal cabinet table. The Conservative government of Prime Minister Stephen Harper doesn't have an MP from the province after losing races for all of its seven seats during Tuesday's federal election. It's time the mayor had a talk with Danny Williams about that little ABC thing.

I hope Harper sticks to his guns about not having any unelected members in the cabinet this time.

There's always a Senate seat Harper can fill. I'm guessing Fortier will be in the Senate again. Emmerson will join him. Who will come from Newfoundland and Labrador?

Tough, ain't it. I guess St. John's mayor had better realize that when the voters in his province become adults and refuse to let some loud-mouthed idiot dictate how they will vote they may be able to earn a seat at the table. Until then, children and sheep get relegated to the sidelines.

The federal Conservative party is throwing cold water on a request by the mayor of St.John's to appoint a Newfoundland senator or Conservative supporter to represent the province in cabinet. Now,Mayor Dennis O'Keefe says Newfoundlanders deserve a voice in cabinet and there is precedent for appointing an unelected minister. He wants people to send that message to Prime Minister Stephen Harper.
